Detroit,mi, June 13, 2024 – Justice for Beniteau,a grassroots organization advocating for environmental justice and community health, demands immediate action against STELlANTIS eight air quality violations and their request to increase particulate matter PM’S emissions at the Mack assembly complex in Detroit.
STELlANTIS claims the new permit to increase PM emissions is necessary to fix previous violations. However, this “ fix “ forces the community to accept higher pollution levels, worsening respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD.
Justice for Beniteau urges authorities to reject STELlANTIS’ request, enforce strict air quality standards, and prioritize Detroit residents’ health over corporate interests. Clean air and a safe environment are non- negotiable RIGHTS.
We demand that the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and STELlANTIS be held accountable for implementing a comprehensive relocation plan for affected residents and a home repair program to make existing houses safer against increased pollution. These measures are critical to mitigate the impact on our community and ensure residents’ wellbeing.
